Mr. Boxall was a founding partner of Bayne Sellar Boxall the predecessor to Bayne Sellar Ertel Carter. Norman Boxall was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1980 and practiced criminal law in Ottawa until his appointment as a Justice of the Ontario Court of Justice in March 2017. Consistent with the current partners he was certified by the Law Society of Upper Canada as a specialist in criminal law. His extensive experience included appearances in all levels of Courts including the Supreme Court of Canada. He successfully defended all types of criminal cases including murder, commercial crime, drug conspiracies, sexual offences, assaults and motor vehicle offences. In addition to his extensive experience in criminal defence he had significant experience in national security matters as counsel in Public Inquiries including the Arar Commission the Air India Inquiry and acting for a named person in a Security Certificate proceeding. He was designated as a Special Advocate by the Minister of Justice. In 2013 Norman Boxall was inducted as a Fellow into the American College of Trial Lawyers. When lawyers found themselves requiring a lawyer, his counsel was frequently sought.

In addition to providing high quality representation and in keeping with the firm's traditions, Norman Boxall was active in contributing to the legal profession and the community generally. He is a Past President of the Criminal Lawyers Association and the only lawyer from outside Toronto to ever be elected as President. In addition he is a Past President of the Defence Counsel Association of Ottawa, a former member of the federal Judicial Appointments Advisory Committee and the Law Society of Upper Canada Criminal Law Specialty Committee. For many years he was a member of the Criminal Law Advisory Board to Legal Aid Ontario. He delivered lectures on criminal law to numerous organizations including the Criminal Lawyers Association, the Law Society Bar Admission Course, the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law, the Canadian Police College and the Ontario Court of Justice (East Region) Judges' Seminar.
